11×15″ Pencil and Ink – Drawn 2018

In 2018 I spent 2 weeks in Janan for a wedding, although it rained during my days in Kyoto, I saw many sights and saw many things worth drawing. I settled on the skyline and a famously only market of stores that we walked through in the rain just as the sun was starting to set.

Drawing consists of coloured pencils and ink, drawn on pressed, acid-free paper. Major objects first drawn in to determine horizon lines and forced perspective.

There was a lot of rain that day, trying to capture the reflections of all the lighting within the puddles in the alleyway.

Both streetscapes starting to fill in, working in the background without flatting the resolution of the foreground.

Foreground and midground completed, working in the background and sunset sky.

Finished version of the drawing, June 2018. Estimated 60 hours.
